About

Azime Özgen is a ceramic artist based in Istanbul, Türkiye. Her practice explores geological time, transformation, memory and the processes through which matter takes form.

With an academic background in Geological Engineering before studying Ceramics at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, Özgen approaches clay through a perspective shaped by both scientific observation and artistic inquiry. Geological formations, evolutionary processes and the deep history of the Earth frequently become points of departure for her work.

Her sculptures and ceramic panels are built through accumulation, repetition and individually formed elements. Rather than directly representing natural structures, she uses these processes to construct imagined surfaces and formations that evoke fossils, cellular organisms, geological strata and landscapes in states of transformation.

Through material, texture and repetition, Özgen examines the relationship between time and matter, and the traces that continuous transformation leaves behind.
